The meeting was like all the others, rules were explained and the agenda discussed. Her eyes scanned the crowd, hoping to be met back by those golden brown eyes. The crowd melted into blank faces, each one blurring with the next. Kai’s hand shot out and she gripped Rae’s   arm.

“I’m feeling dizzy” she whispered quietly, glancing out at the crowd again.
“The meeting is almost done, then you can step down and relax. No backing out now, Adian’s coming.” Rae whispered back, squeezing her hand.  Kai gazed out over the crowd again. She saw him… walking towards the crowd… but it wasn’t him… her world was completely fuzzy, and Adian was furry.

“Kai! Your eyes… they’re black!” was the last thing Kai heard before she sunk to her knees and fell forward. Her body began to shiver violently.  The wind beat against her; it slapped her face, crept through her clothes and froze her body solid. The world was turning from blur to black and she could feel her eyes filling with an oily substance. She tried to open her mouth, to scream, to gasp for breath but it would not move. Her jaw felt like it was wired shut, painful to the slightest movement. Tears from the pain tried to roll down her face, but instead she only felt the sticky, slimy goop slide down her cheeks. She then tried to blink back the tears, which was her biggest mistake.  She felt them slide down her throat closing it up, and a bit of it seeped into her mouth. She could feel her lungs trying to cough it away, she was drowning in it. Slowly suffocating in the shade’s grasp…

Then there was light. She felt large hand grab her, but they were no hands that she knew. They were fuzzy, with large claws at the end. They pushed her onto her back, and the goo slipped further down into her lungs, making her body only struggle more.

Fight this Kai… seek what is in yourself

Kai grew confused… it was if the light was speaking to her… but why would light speak?

Then the pain of being human struck her. She felt as if she were stabbed by thousands of needles as the hands pushed her shirt up towards her neck. Even the slightest movement of her body caused this now. She tried to scream bloody murder when she felt the knife enter her chest, but she did not have enough air to force anything out (if she could). Her skin was splitting open! Blood and goo began to run freely from the wound, spilling down her. She could feel it running down her ribs, creating a sticky mess on the floor only gluing her down more. She tried to move away, for the goo would surely take her into the earth if she stayed in it.

Don’t move!

Kai froze again; she could feel hands upon her but without the needles. Then it came again.  This time the knife cut a swirl design below the vertical cut, then another beneath the swirl. She blood and ooze kept flowing from her… onto the floor it spilled, creating a dark matt around her. Almost a frame now, she imagined. Her body was dying… sinking into the darkness…

Darkness

Then, as if a lasting miracle she felt the tear upon her face. Cool, it trudged a path through the sludge.  Then someone gently tilted up her head, and more tears fell. On her nose and mouth the water slipped, and she could open her mouth, allow air to enter her nostrils.

She gasped and felt the air fight its way into her chest. There it fought with the ooze from the shade for its rightful space. Then the chanting… she had heard it before… in a dream?

She was there… in the glade again! Her werewolf held her tightly, singing in his deep rough voice. It was a language she had never heard of, but she knew the words.

    Little druid, do not sleep
For you will not dream of me
Fight the devil in your chest
     It poisons you, little druid
     Light will show the way
The dog and the wolf,
One and the same
Let them guide you
Let them teach you
Little druid, do not run away

Her skin grew hot, almost boiling… she imagined a great light, as if the entire sun was in her body and she was letting it shine through. Then she heard it, like a tea kettle’s whistling scream… and then it left. She opened her eyes, and clouded through the tears she saw the snow fall around her. Her werewolf held her tightly in his arms, the golden brown eyes looking down at her. Then that world began to swirl… deeper and deeper into the snow she fell. She had to close her eyes to stop the stinging.

The world stopped.

She heard whispers around her. She opened her eyes again and looked up. Adian held her tightly in his arms, those golden brown eyes staring down at her.

“You passed out.” He said to her, preventing her from sitting up as she tried. He was incredibly strong, though he didn’t look it.

“Sorry I screamed when you passed out Kai; the mascara running down your face through the tears made it look like your eyes had turned black.” Rae said sheepishly.

Kai realized her shirt was normal now; she slipped a hand up it and on her stomach. There she felt the fresh scabs healing over the wounds carved into her. The runes that had helped saved her life would forever be marked by the scars.

She looked up at Adian and smiled, “you saved me…” she whispered so only he could hear. He looked at her a little shocked and then smiled back.

“It’s what I do, little druid. The shade is gone, so dream of me” and he kissed the top of her head. She closed her eyes and watched the snow begin to fall.
One cannot write where the future will take us

Final installment, I hope this has been worth your time ladies and gentlemen.

It is a little bloody, but I did not judge enough to be a issue for some of our younger readers. If you feel it is so, please send me a note and we'll discuss the matter. :) (Unless your a DA moderator who doesn't need to discuss such things, anyway).

Please I implore you to write more of this fantastic story, in other words you have me hooked with meat hooks (meat hooks are giant hooks that are about 18 inches in size made out of thick high-carbon steel)
